What is the Gospel?
Many know that Adam and Eve ate from the one tree that God forbade (Genesis 2-3), but what was the effect of this action? When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they sinned. When they sinned, they were immediately separated from God. They used to live in perfect harmony with God; He walked with them in Eden. Now He could not even look at them because of their sin and its complete opposition to His perfection. We all disobey God and thus we all sin. What is more, our sin carries a steep punishment. We will forever be separated from God in death because He will not live with sin.
God made sure this was not our final end. He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the punishment for our sin. God's perfect, only Son died in our stead. The One who deserved no punishment took on the greatest punishment. God then raised Jesus from the dead to prove that He had indeed triumphed over sin. When we confess this truth, repent, and believe in Jesus' death on our account, we are saved from the wrath of God (Romans 10:9). We must turn from our sin and turn in faith to Christ, believing that His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sin. We are free to be in a relationship with God again. We can now live with Him eternally in heaven. We can now exclaim, "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57)!
We would love to talk to you anytime about the good news of Jesus Christ!
